Update on Job Search for the week of 2/22

I am still waiting on responses from a couple of companies.

1. High-tech company
2. Health care company

While I was traveling, I received an email from another company and one from a recruiter for a contract job.

I sent my resume and hourly rates to the recruiter for a contract lasting 6-9 months at a high-tech company. Additionally, I had a telephone interview with the other company regarding a training solutions consultant position that will be based in Austin. I will be working out of my home and they will pay for the infrastructure for my home office.

A Little Disappointment to Go with My Missed Flight

I found out while I was sitting in my seat on the flight to Norfolk that the high-tech company I interviewed with on Friday of last week extended an offer to another candidate.

Although I am a little disappointed, I am relieved that I didn't get the position. After discussing the position with various people, I don't think my skills and experience were a good match for the position.

I am praying for the position at the health care company. I do want to make a difference in people's lives.

Update on Job Search

Well, this past week was a very good week. I had 2 face-to-face interviews and am patiently waiting for their decision.

The first interview was with a high-tech company for a position as a PM in their education department. The interviews went very well. I was hoping to hear something by this past Friday. Things move slowly sometimes.

The second interview was with a health care organization looking for an implementation PM. This interview went very well and I was very comfortable in discussing the position and their organization. I am 1 of 4 people that are being interviewed. I was the first. The 3 others will be interviewed this week. Once completed, the team will recommend 1 candidate to the president and CEO of the company. He will interview the final candidate and make a decision. They are hoping to complete this by the end of the month.

I keep each and every opportunity in prayer and continue to believe that God will put me in the right spot to bring glory to His kingdom.

A Word from the State of Texas

A couple of weeks ago, I had interviewed with a state agency. Everything seemed to go very well and I felt that I would be offered the position.

I received an email just a few minutes ago. The position, a Business Process Analyst, was canceled. At least, I got an interview with the state and it wasn't a rejection letter.

Although I should be disappointed, I feel good about it. After sending resume after resume, I finally got the opportunity to interview. Things are improving, my friends.

My Thoughts on Making a Difference

As I had mentioned before, my brother was working on becoming a paramedic. He worked at Dell and decided that he would take the voluntary separation package. He completed his coursework and took the paramedic certification examination. Danny passed with flying colors. He is now working on finding a position with one of the EMS organizations.

Danny took a 50% pay cut to dedicate his life to helping people and making a REAL difference. When I think about it, I was making a difference in the lives of others. I was making the top 10% of the company richer and making stockholders richer. One of the things I did realize is that both are not grateful and will lay you off at the drop of a hat or if the economy dips.

Corporate executives and stockholders have one thing on their minds, money. They are never satisfied and want more of it. Take a look at the quarterly announcements that corporations make. Even if they meet their expectations, the stock drops. Stockholders believe they should have done better even if the economy is off. If companies beat the street, stockholders believe that they should have beaten expectations by even more.

So, you see. No one is ever content with what they have. They keep demanding more. I have noticed more and more people completely dissatisfied with the American mindset. We are working harder and harder for less and less. I'm not talking about money. I'm talking about those things that should come before money. Our faith should come before money. Our families should come before money. Our health should come before money.

Look at what has happened to our lives, we spend all of our time to increase our wealth and we sacrifice everything to get it.

We sacrifice our health and work harder only to spend all of our money to regain what we already had for free if we had just slowed down and relaxed.

We sacrifice our families and work harder only to spend all of our money on counseling to regain what we already had for free if we had just spent quality time with our families.

We sacrifice our souls and work harder only to watch our wealth dwindle away due to things beyond our control and we spend more time trying to regain what we have lost and sacrifice more.

I'm not saying that we should not save or be comfortable, but when you cannot fill the void that is in your life and you aren't making a difference, it will drain you emotionally, physically and spiritually.

When you go to the doctor's office, ask the billing agent for the actual amount of the bill that you would pay if you didn't have insurance. You will be shocked. You will find that you are spending more and more on your health as you sacrifice more and more of yourself for money.

Since I have been doing volunteer work, I have gotten more and more out of it than I could have ever imagined. I am making a difference in people's lives and I am happier. I may not have a Mercedes in the garage and a home in the richest part of town, but I do have a wonderful family , a car that gets me from place to place, a beautiful home and I'm happier.

Interview Scheduled for This Friday

I have an interview scheduled for this Friday with a health care company. To be quite honest, I really would like to work for a company that is making a REAL difference in people's lives.

Finished my Interview for Today with High-Tech Company

I had my interview with the high-tech company and chatted with some friends about another position in the another department at the same company.

I should know something by the end of the week.

Interview at 8AM Today!

I am getting ready for my interview that is scheduled at 8AM today.

As I had mentioned in previous blog entries, I have received more prospects in two months than I have received in all of 2009. Things have been improving. It is just taking time.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is patience. You have to remain patient and dedicated. Sometimes, you have to deal with a lot of disappointment. But, in the end, you will be rewarded for it.

Update on Where Things Stand

I received an email from the the digital publication company. Add another rejection letter to the pile. I was originally rejected back in 1/26 and then received an email stating that the position had been re-redefined. So, I had a telephone interview and got rejected.

I had hoped that the company would have at least brought me in for a face-to-face interview. Oh, well. I'm still optimistic about the other opportunities.

Where Things Stand at the Moment

Well, things are starting to move in the right direction. I have had several telephone interviews and a couple of face to face interviews as well.

Here's how things are going.

1. State of Texas: I had the telephone and face t0 face interviews. I'm waiting on a response. They want to hire the position quickly.

2. Digital Publication Company: I have had 1 telephone interview and 1 set of email questions and I am waiting on a response from the hiring manager to see if they want to move forward.

3. A contract job with a high-tech company: I had the telephone interview about 4 weeks ago and haven't received a response. I'm crossing it off the list.

4. A full time position with a high-tech company: After a telephone interview about 3 weeks ago, I just received a phone call. I have a face-to-face interview with the company tomorrow at 8AM. Looks promising.

5. Talking with a friend about another position with a high-tech company: Need to find out more.
6. Health care company: I had a telephone interview with the director of implementation for a health care company in Central Texas. I'm waiting for further movement. I should know this week.

Things are improving for us and thank God for all that He has done.

14 Months of Unemployment

To date, I have been unemployed for a little over 14 months. I have sent out over 1400 resumes and filled out a little over 700 applications.

I have a couple of opportunities that have come up over the last couple of weeks and I am waiting for responses. I have talked with several friends of mine over the past months. Some are still unemployed. Most remain unemployed or under-employed.

Just last night, I received an email from a company that had passed over my resume. They now want to talk about another position. So, things are getting better for me.

I still remain optimistic and believe that 2010 is the year that will change my employment status. As I look at the stock market and see that it has slipped below the 10,000 mark, I can sense that most people are concerned that the recession is not over as predicted earlier. Americans have started to pay off much of their debt. Issuance of new credit cards have dropped significantly.

In time, things will improve, but I hope that people have learned their lessons. Don't spend more than you can afford. I have seen too many people suffer from credit. When used with no control, credit can be a very cruel master. Needless to say, we have moved away from credit as much as possible and pay cash for all of our purchases.

Several years ago, we bought two sofas for our family room using one of those "No Payment and Interest for xx Months" programs. At the time, it seemed like a great idea. However, when you are laid off about a year later and your payments are about to come due, you have a problem. I suggest that you never use one of those programs. Given most corporations' track records, you may be laid off and throw to the street.

Jobless Rate Falls Unexpectedly to 9.7 Percent in January

FOXNews.com - Jobless Rate Falls Unexpectedly to 9.7 Percent in January

Good news with a little bad. Jobless rate has fallen below 10%. However, employers will shed 20,000 jobs. It looks like a roller coaster.

I have been noticing a steady increase in the number of jobs out there. I have had more responses to my resume in the past 4 months than the entire year of 2009. Given that, things are looking up for a lot of my friends.

Today, I have an interview for a state position. I am very excited about it and continue to pray for opportunities and the one opportunity that will allow me to go back to work in an enjoyable environment.

Jobless Claims Rose Unexpectedly Last Week

Jobless Claims Rose Unexpectedly Last Week - FOXBusiness.com

Although the jobless claims are up, there are more jobs on the market. Do not worry about the numbers. I know it can be depressing and you will get frustrated from time to time. Just stay the course. Don't give up. Keep networking. Keep sending out those resumes.

I know it is easy just to give up and stop looking. You will find something. In the mean time, look at what you WANT to do and work towards achieving that. During this portion of your life, you have a chance to change things. You can do something you want to do rather than something you have to do.
