Resume Basics: Check Spelling

If you say in your resume that you are "detail-oriented" or have "an eye for detail" and you have misspellings in your resume, your resume will be quickly thrown in the waste basket. Be careful when writing your resume. The spell checking does not pick up difference in the words like him or hymn. So, you need to read it and then have someone else read it. After that person, you need to have others read it.

After talking with people, I highly recommend that you have 4 to 5 people read your resume closely. If you can find someone who is an editor, you have a great resource for this. If you don't, use the people around you to read your resume and check for spelling. I have found people in churches and friends who are willing and would consider it an honor to read your resume.

The more eyes you have reading your resume will greatly increase its chances of success. The last thing you want is to supply someone a resume with misspellings and not get an interview simply because you failed to read it.

In the past couple of weeks, I have helped a lot of people with their resumes and each had misspelled words. If you can't find someone to read your resume, I would be happy to help you. Just email me.
