Catching Up on What's Going on in My Life

It has been a few days since I have wrote a blog entry. Things are very competitive still in the job market. In fact, they got more competitive. A few of my friends at the company I worked for got laid off last week. From all of the rumors I have heard, it was a very large number. Once again, this is just rumor.

As for me, I am still sending out resumes, applications and doing my follow-ups. I have reached out to a lot of people by using just some uncommon tactics and sheer chutzpah. I like that word, chutzpah. I think it sums up how a person should be when looking for a job or an opportunity for that matter.

I have stretched out in networking. I can tell you that I am not shy about asking for a connection or help in getting into a company. I am constantly networking. You have to do that. Remember, 75% of all job opportunities come through networking. I talk with everyone I meet and have a business card at the ready with my name and telephone number on it. It also has a brief summary statement of my skills and experience. A business card has two sides. USE THEM BOTH!

Over the past 3 Sundays, I have been delivering the message during Sunday Services at the Lakeline Oaks Retirement Community in Cedar Park, TX. Needless to say, God has placed me in a place where my wife, daughter and I work together to the glory of the Father. My daughter runs the sound system and tells me where to stand and checks my microphone and plans out the presentation. My wife leads the music and devotional moments. We have been blessed by the residents and staff of this community and we love them all so very much. God has definitely been good to us.

As a part of the ministry, I teach computer classes at the community without charge. The residents have someone there they can turn to in case they need some help using a computer. Once again, another ministry is in action for God's kingdom.

If you are looking for a wonderful place for your parents to retire to, I would highly recommend Lakeline Oaks. The staff is absolutely wonderful and they are more like family than staff members. My daughter enjoys going there to help and my wife and I are blessed by them. So, if you decide to look for a place, drop by there and see the folks. Just say, "Jesse sent me." They will take excellent care of you and your parents.
